Prior to 2008, Beijing will have reformed the existing 573 star-level hotels and upgraded star-level 227 new hotels with the goal of energy saving. It is estimated that by August 2008 tourists to Beijing will top 1.7 million, which includes 600,000 foreigners. However, 80% of over 500 star-level hotels in Beijing are at least 10 years old, and most of them are planning to reform in 1 to 5 years. By 2008, Beijing will have 800 star-level hotels and 130,000 guestrooms. Energy-saving reform of hotels is one program of Beijing “Green Olympics”. Additionally, Zhu Xibin, chairman of Municipal Building Decoration Association, and some famous designers hope to witness local and national characteristics in the hotel reform. |
